Rooster's New Dress / Easter Weekend

Rooster's New Dress!

For the first time ever, I bought a dress pattern and some fabric and HAND SEWED a jumber for Riley. I know how to sew pretty well, I think. I can mend broken seams and add appliques to fabric, but I had never attempted an outfit from a pattern before. Yesterday, Rooster and I had the whole day off together. Mr. Dye wakes me up to say goodbye around 4:15 AM every morning. This morning, I couldn't go back to sleep, so I began tracing out the patterns. I had everything cut out and several pieces already sewn together before Rooster woke up (she even slept in!) at 9:15! Throughout the day, any chance I got: nap-time, quiet-time, meal-time... ANYtime! I was sewing. I applied the very last button at 7:15 yesterday evening. My momma complimented me on my speed for it being my first time to hand sew a patterned outfit. :) :) :) I didn't take any pictures of the process, but here is the finished product:

I know, it's the Thursday AFTER Easter and I'm just now getting to this post. I wanted to show some of the pictures from Easter Weekend. Enjoy:

The Easter Bunny
by M. Josephine Todd, 1909

There's a story quite funny,
About a toy bunny,

And the wonderful things she can do;
Every bright Easter morning,

Without warning,
She colors eggs, red, green, or blue.

Some she covers with spots,
Some with quaint little dots,

And some with strange mixed colors, too
-- Red and green, blue and yellow,
But each unlike his fellow
Are eggs of every hue.

And it's odd, as folks say,
That on no other day

In all of the whole year through,
Does this wonderful bunny,

So busy and funny,
Color eggs of every hue.

If this story you doubt
She will soon find you out,

And what do you think she will do?
On the next Easter morning

She'll bring you without warning,
Those eggs of every hue.

Rooster had a great time of finding all the Easter eggs :) I'm sorry for the bad picture quality. I went off and left my laptop at home and am using a campus computer lab and pulling pictures from Facebook... we all know how bad FB distorts picture quality. I will try to re-post at a later date :)

After all the Easter festivities, we took Rooster to the lake to feed the ducks:

Watching the Children Play
By Roger B. Humes

my thoughts are interrupted
by the pound of the surf mixed
with the shrieks of girlish laughter

propped behind my notebook
i view their times of sand castles and dreams
as a moment that has somehow passed me by
while i was too busy living forever

someday
they too shall sit upon this chair
and contemplate the sand
that has run through their fingers like years

OCEAN
BY  Bobby Pate J.r.

Ocean, Ocean,
Such a beautiful place
Where the water hits each other and the sand,
Where the birds chirp, when they sing there song,

Ocean, Ocean,
Such a beautiful place
Where would you like be at before you die?
The Ocean, where i like to be.
